Story of Our Journey

The NACPDEAN is a professional non-governmental, not-for-profit, and non-political Association. It is the apex umbrella body for charcoal stakeholders established by the Federal Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment Abuja (Commodities and Export Department) in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Environment, the Federal Ministry of Agriculture & Rural Development (FMARD), the Raw Material Research & Development Council (RMRDC), the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC), the Nigerian Export Promotion Council (NEPC), the Federation of Agricultural Commodity Associations of Nigeria (FACAN), other relevant MDAs and Organized Charcoal Private Stakeholders (34 charcoal groups in every state in Nigeria, which includes but not limited to wood/charcoal producers, dealers, suppliers, & exporters) to streamline and coordinate the activity of all Charcoal stakeholders locally and internationally, to ensure traceability, and transparency to adequately contribute to the GDP growth of the nation, create green jobs, women and youths capacity building and empowerment, harmonization of stakeholders locally and internationally for posterity to attain compliance with government policies and extant regulations.

The association has a rapidly growing membership and approximately 16 million stakeholders nationwide. Women represent approximately 70% of our stakeholders’ workforce, according to our last survey carried out in January 2023.

The NACPDEAN has 36 national executive council members across the geopolitics zones nationwide, 888 State Chapters’ Executives and 2,322 local government executives. The NACPDEAN has a national spread with active members in all 36 states including the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and international members as well.

What We Do

Our mandates are to manage, coordinate, regulate, pilot, and enhance the affairs of the Charcoal commodity sector in Nigeria, while also being the nation’s leading agroforestry body, positioning Nigeria as one of the world’s major ecological contributors to the reduction of climate change and making Nigeria, the world at large a more conducive place to live, while also being the nation’s focal representative and contact center on the international level of charcoal commodity and climate enhancers.

NACPDEAN’s main objectives are to champion afforestation with abundant forest covers, sustainable forest development with a special focus on Agrisilviculture (Trees & Crops), establishment of more private indigenous plantations & the creation of industrial alternative charcoal that will not come from wood, more efforts in curbing deforestation, achieving afforestation with adequate forex earning, and boosting the sub-sector to yield more employment for women & youths in Nigeria.

NACPDEAN initiates, regulates, and innovates easy of doing business solutions in the charcoal sub-sectors for producers, dealers, exporters, and Agroforestry for national, state, and local communities in Nigeria.

NACPDEAN strives within its capacity to achieve a national agroforestry target that will provide food and forest commodities through agroecological principles to enhance the climate for a conducive environmental healthy living.

Tree Planting Pledge

The Association is keen to champion tree planting in Nigeria by replanting some strategic land with tree species of high ecological value and economic interest.

Gender Equality Policy

The NACPDEAN is committed to consistently promoting gender equality and value delivery to its stakeholders.

The NACPDEAN is committed to the implementation of Gender Equality Plan in accordance with the requirements of the United Nations and would ensure compliance with relevant statutory requirements in its operations and service delivery.

NACPDEAN ensures that gender equality objectives are set at national, state and local government levels. To effectively achieve this policy, the NACPDEAN shall focus on the following:
