We humbly introduce our newly birthed national association to the world, we are the National Association of Charcoal Producers, Dealers, Exporters, and Afforestation of Nigeria – NACPDEAN.
After several initial stakeholder meetings held at the headquarters of the Federal Ministry of Industry, Trade & Investment in Abuja with the government ably represented by the following MDAs:
1. Federal Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment;
2. Federal Ministry of Environment – Federal Department of Forestry;
3. Federal Ministry of Agriculture & Rural Development;
4. Federal Ministry of Science and Technology – Raw Materials Research and Development Council;
5. Federation of Commodity Association of Nigeria (FACAN);
6. Nigerian Export Promotion Council;
7. Corporate Affairs Commission.
On the 28th of September 2021, we held another national stakeholders’ meeting with over one hundred and twenty (120) stakeholders representing all states in Nigeria and various local and state associations ranging from producers, processors, dealers, marketers, and exporters of the charcoal sector with Federal Ministry of Industry, Trade & Investment and other MDAs duly represented as mentioned above inaugurated a national apex umbrella body, which is the National Association of Charcoal Producers, Dealers, Exporters and Afforestation of Nigeria – NACPDEAN to manage the charcoal commodity business in every local, state and national level.
Our mandate is to manage, coordinate, regulate, pilot, and enhance the affairs of the Charcoal commodity sector in Nigeria, while also being the nation’s leading agroforestry body, positioning Nigeria as one of the world’s major ecological contributors to the reduction of climate change and making Nigeria, the world at large a more conducive place to live, while also being the nation’s focal representative and contact center on the international level of charcoal commodity and climate enhancers.
We want to reiterate that one of our main objectives is to champion agroforestry in Nigeria at large, with a focused national agroforestry plan of ‘cut one-plant five trees’. We (NACPDEAN) and the government are also aware that Nigeria has been deforested due to improper initial afforestation steps, which led to the ban of charcoal export and birthed this national apex umbrella body (NACPDEAN).
Once again, We are honored to introduce our newly inaugurated national apex umbrella body to you as the National Association of Charcoal Producers, Dealers, Exporters, and Afforestation of Nigeria (NACPDEAN).
We will also share our National Agroforestry Plan as soon as it is finalized and approved, while we are also seeking further advice, partnerships, and sponsorships to help us achieve a suitable and realistic national agroforestry plan.
